The Exploring
California Insects Program engages teachers of science and their learners
in studies of their local insect fauna through collecting trips, field and
lab use of real science equipment, and web content. Insects observed by learners
are studied, written about, and photographed. The findings are published
online in ways that include web field guide pages, electronic books (eBooks),
lesson plans, teaching materials, and multimedia presentations. Current projects
include 'Lake Merritt and Greater Oakland Insects,' a paperback coming to
CD-ROM in Spring 2005; 'Insects of Wente Scout Reservation, Mendocino County,
CA,' a website and paperback coming to CD-ROM in Summer 2005; and 'Exploring
California Insects,' a photographic survey of California insects with 50
images placed on CD-ROM and viewable as screen savers, slideshows or jigsaw
puzzles.
