Saturday, March 17, Boy Scouts of America Troop 299 hiked the Goldenrod Trail - from the southern-most end of Skyline Blvd., Oakland all the way down to Lake Chabot. Along the way they learned to identify and avoid poison oak , observed and identified a gopher snake, held by Geoffrey Mitchell , and learned to distinguish venomous from non-venomous snakes. The scouts also came across the remains of a large animal . Close inspection revealed it was a deer.
