Comparison: Jumping Bristletails may easily be mistaken for Silverfish
or Bristletails (Order Thysanura,
image).
They get their common name from their ability to jump. They
use their well developed middle caudal appendage. At night eyes glow when
illuminated with a flashlight.
Wings: Jumping Bristletails are wingless. Form: They are elongate
and "hump-backed" in lateral view. Abdomen: The abdomen has 3 long
caudal appendages. Antennae: Long and slender. Eyes: A
character that distinguished Jumping Bristletails from the Thysanura is their
relatively large compound eyes that meet at the top of the head.
