DESCRIPTION

Size: Similar to the German cockroach (Blattella germanica). Male body length is 13-14.5 mm long. Females are 11-12 mm. Color: Adults are generally dark brown with a band of pale brown at the base of the wings and another band of pale brown a third of the distance from the base, giving adults a "banded" appearance. Abdomens of female are much broader and rounder posteriorly than the male's. Wings: Male wings cover the abdomen completely. They are dark brown at the base, becoming increasingly lighter posteriorly. Female wings are short, reddish brown to very dark brown, and never cover the entire abdomen. Female wings and bodies are much darker than those of the male. In both sexes, the lateral margin of the anterior portion of the wing is translucent. Pronotum: In both sexes, the lateral margins of the pronotum are translucent. Ventrum: Ventral body surfaces and legs of the male and the legs of the female are light strawcolored. Nymphs are dark brown, with a contrasting pale brown margin on the thorax. The meso- and metathorax are pale brown, and the abdomen has a broad, pale area. The dark and pale areas of the nymphs are in striking contrast, and easily identify this species.
