DESCRIPTION

Anobiids are polymorphic, meaning that they may exist in a variety of sizes (about 1.1 to 8mm in length). Differently-sized exit holes are indications that Anobiids have been at work. Anobiids are similar to the Dermestidae, but may be distinguished by their antennae which are not clubbed and do not fit into grooves on the pronotum. Their last three antennae segments are usually elongate or expanded. Also, the hind coxae are grooved for the reception of the femora in anobiids. The head is usually concealed by the expanded pronotum.
Larvae of different species feed on dried organic material, fungi, seeds, etc., or may be wood-boring.
