Also known as Soldier Beetles.
Like the
Lampyridae,
Cantharidae are soft-bodied and have loose-fitting, parallel-sided elytra.
They may appear somewhat flattened. They may be distinguished from the Lampyridae
by their less well developed pronotum that does not conceal their head in
dorsal view. Also, Cantharidae lack the light producing organ of
Lampyridae.
