Carabids are common beetles. More commonly, they are black. The
elytra typically have longitudinal rows of fine punctures. The hind coxae
are not expanded laterally and do not meet the elytra. The head is usually
narrower than the pronotum. Unlike
Tiger
Beetles (Family Cicindelidae), the width of the eyes is not wider than
the pronotum. Also, the pronotum is narrower than the base of the elytra.
The tarsal formula is 5-5-5.
