Checkered beetles are commonly boldly marked with red, yellow
or blue. They are characterized by their parallel-sided form with narrowed
prothorax which is distinctly narrower than the base of the elytra. In
cross-section the pronotum is somewhat cylindrical. The head is relatively
large and they are covered with hair.
