Weevils are characterized, generally, by having a snout.
In some members, the snout is used to feed on seeds, or to create sites for
oviposition (egg-laying). Members are diverse biologically and may be
root-feeding,leaf-mining forms and stored products infesting.
Curculionids may usually be identified by their elongate snout which bears
small mandibles at the tip. The antennae are elbowed and clubbed (club of
three segments) and may fit into grooves along the length of the snout. Most
members of this family are moderately to strongly convex. Tarsi are 5-5-5
but may appear 4-4-4.
