Cicadellids are usually parallel sided in dorsal view, but may taper posteriorly.
This character and the presence of one or more rows of spines on the hind
tibia distinguishes them from the
Cercopidae.
They may be distinguished from cicadas by their smaller size. Antennae are
short, bristlelike, rising in front of or from between the eyes.Most are
less than 10 mm and many are brightly colored.
