Siricids are large (25-35 MM), usually brownish or black. Some species have
dark wings. In dorsal view the pronotum is wider than long and is deeply
emarginate posteriorly. These insects are heavily sclerotized. Ovipositors
are long and conspicuous. The abdomen bears a spine posteriorly. Pronotum
is wider than long (contrasted with
Cephidae).
Foretibia with only one well developed apical spur (sometimes a second weak
one is present).
