Elongate, thin
forms with transversely elongate heads. The thorax is characteristically
shaped in this suborder and allows the wings to be held along the back of
the abdomen which superficially resembles the neopterous condition. The forewing
is as broad as the hindwing at the base. Nymphs have three caudal appendages
which function as gills.
